What’s stopping you? Why do we not follow through with things we’re initially so driven to..

Why do we not follow through with the things we talk so much about, or things were initially so driven, excited, interested or enthusiastic about?

The last few days I’ve been thinking about this question a lot. I observe this behavior in others, and in myself.

People getting excited and making plans, brainstorming some great things and amazing ideas, the wanting of something more or different in their day or entire lives.

But when it comes to action they back out.

They question.

They over think.

They end up doing nothing.

They end up holding themselves back, and not experiencing and growing.

At least not to an extent to where they feel content.

You can hear it in their voice. In how they talk. In how they carry themselves. In their energy.

There’s an itching to get out, do things, be daring and brave, and explore what they express so enthusiastically.

So what stops us from turning ideas and thoughts into action? What keeps us from fully living life?

What’s preventing us from trying new and different, or exhilarating things that excite us enough to talk about, think, and start planning them?

🧩Fears - fear is the single greatest block to us pursuing and living a life we’ve imagined. What’s your fear? Fear of success? Fear of failure? Fear of what others will think or say? Fear of the unknown?

🧩Overthinking - Think, but not too much. “Overthinking comes in two forms; ruminating about the past and worrying about the future.

It's different than problem-solving. Problem-solving involves thinking about a solution. Overthinking involves dwelling on the problem.

Overthinking is also different than self-reflection. Healthy self-reflection is about learning something about yourself or gaining a new perspective about a situation. It's purposeful.” - Inc

🧩Scarcity mindset - Getting caught up in the belief that there will never be enough — whether it's money, food, emotions or something else entirely — and as a result, your actions and thought stem from a place of lack.

🧩Self-Confidence, self-trust, self-Belief - the storied we’ve grown up to believe - about ourselves and about others views of ourselves, shape us. So does our environment, and our social and familial circle. From a young age we adopt certain beliefs, bias’, stories, and expectations. But these aren’t always reality and they don’t need to be YOUR Truth. More often they are our parents, or elders. Becoming adults, we are capable of adopting our own sets of beliefs, values, priorities. In fact, it’s important to do just that.

So, What Does it take?

✨Awareness - we can change what we’re unaware of. Busyness keeps us doing the same thing without though. Instead, pause, breathe, bring awareness and allow reflection.

✨Overcoming fears - Do it even if we’re not ready, comfortable or confident. Readiness is a lie. You’re rarely if ever, going to feel fully ready, and waiting until conditions are good and feeling up for it is going to mean hopping out more than jumping in.

✨Facing discomfort - growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones. Playing it safe will keep you where you are. Take risks that are a bit uncomfortable more often. Do more things that both excite you and scare you.

✨Commitment and discipline. Are you interested or are you committed? Even if you’re not sure of something (actually there’s little you can be 100% sure about an outcome for) the only way to really see if it’s going to work out and if it’s worth it, and if we really want it, is to commit to it for a period of time and see what happens.

✨Falling in love with the process - the journey. Cultivate patience.

✨Adopting an Abundance mindset. Your perspective and mindset are your greatest powers (if you let them), so why not let them be!?!

✨Embracing the unknown. There’s little you know absolutely about the future. Being curious, interested and excited by not knowing exactly how things will play out is enriching and empowering. It’s what gives life a little more jazz and pep.
